Comments on major new roundabout planned for Barossa Valley

A $6 million roundabout near Tanunda is being built as part of an effort to expand the routes available to heavy vehicles.  It will cover the old railway route as it heads north of Tanunda.

Committee member and former Chair Fay Patterson has forwarded comments to DPTI on the plans She notes the inadequacy of provision for pedestrians and cyclists, pointing out features of the Austroads Guidelines that are not being met in the design.

She also notes that while there is a separate shared use path available to northbound cyclists, there is nothing for southbound cyclists, who will have to share a long left turn lane with heavy vehicles.

We hope that this advocacy will result in a safer outcome for cyclists using this route.
